Great Value Buttery Rounds vs Ritz Crackers: Which Cracker Is Better?

Ritz Crackers are iconic. They are so buttery and flakey. There’s really nothing else like them. Well, there’s nothing like them except the off-brand dupes.

And when it comes to dupes of iconic products, Great Value knows what they’re doing. Walmart’s in-house brand makes some of the best generic foods you can buy. If you’re trying to save a couple of bucks but still want the taste of brand-name, Walmart is usually a good bet—but not always Today, we’re tasting Ritz Crackers next to Great Value Buttery Rounds to see if Walmart can create crackers that are just as buttery and delicious as the real deal—but cheaper.

The Brand Name: Ritz Crackers ($3.99)

Ritz Crackers are really good. I always forget that for some reason. Then, I eat a Ritz cracker with dip at a party or on a charcuterie board at a dinner and I’m reminded how delicious they are. They’re buttery and flakey and salty. Sure, they go with cheese and dip, but they’re also tasty on their own. In my opinion, most crackers don’t taste good enough to eat by themselves. We even used Ritz Crackers in place of graham crackers to make s’mores and it was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. I will never go back to graham crackers. TLDR: Ritz Crackers are perfect.

The Store Brand: Great Value Buttery Rounds ($2.62)

The first thing I noticed about these crackers is the name. Buttery Rounds?! Sign me up! That name is so much more appealing than “Ritz.” What’s a Ritz? I have no clue. A buttery round, on the other hand, I want it no matter what it is.

Now, let’s talk taste: These are good. Good. But sadly, they are not great. I had such high hopes for the Great Value Buttery Rounds. I would’ve bet money on the fact that they were just as delicious, if not more delicious, than Ritz Crackers. That’s why we do these taste tests, though! These are not nearly as flaky or buttery as the OG Ritz. Sad!

Winner: Ritz Crackers

Duh! Great Value Buttery Rounds just couldn’t live up to the perfection that is the Ritz Cracker.
